"I brought you silence" makes reference to the violent abduction of Persephone by Hades in the work by Italian sculptor, Bernini. The original sculpture "The rape of Persephone" (1621-22) was praised for its amazing contrast of tenderness and cruelty. In the AD-Reflex interpretation, the Neo-Baroque, opulent surface separates before the eyes as an optical illusion, revealing a complex three-dimensional space, wherein the stuffed, exotic birds of a 'Victorian cabinet of curiosities' freely interact with the sculpture. The brightly coloured birds of paradise, Japanese silk threads, light reflections and Swarovki crystals are used to disguise the dark subject matter, commenting on notions of ‘beauty’, ‘the kitsch’, and the bravery of ornaments.
