The art of AD-REFLEX is deeply ingrained in two sources: art history, and the pathos of creating art anew. Influenced by the Baroque (Caravaggio in particular) and Twenty First century technologies, “Ruptured” bridges the gap between the past and present, and is here presented to almost constitute a complete ‘rupture’ between the clearly contoured worlds of the old dramas: battles between victory and defeat, light and dark, hope and despair. Several scenes from art history as varied as “The crucifixion of St Peter” by Caravaggio and “Samson” by Solomon J Soloman ‘collide’ with the help of various photo manipulation software techniques, wherein traces of the original works haunt through pigments and solvents like ghosts of a distant past. In a dialectical counter move, AD-REFLEX then covers digital prints over with oil paint and squeegees, smears, distorts, injures and attacks what they have originally conceived to create anew.
